Turfdry Wins Major Framework Contract for Wakefield Council

Added: 28th August 2011.

Turfdry has won a major ‘framework’ contract for Wakefield Council, which has identified over thirty of its football pitches that require drainage improvements.

When Wakefield Council first advertised its proposals there was tremendous interest from specialist drainage firms throughout the country and twenty firms sent representatives to an ‘open day’ organized by the Council in September 2010.

Following a pre-qualification process, eight firms were invited to tender for the project in April 2011, by submitting their own ‘Sustainable Drainage Solutions’ for two initial sites at Pontefract Park and Snydale Miners Welfare, Normanton.

The majority of firms submitted proposals based on conventional two-tier plastic pipe and slit-drain systems, whereas Turfdry ‘s proposal was based on its unique Turfdry Drainage System using Hydraway Sportsdrain, which had already proven successful for Wakefield Council when installed at Freeston High School back in 2003, and continues to perform well eight years after installation.

Following an exhaustive tender evaluation process, Turfdry was awarded the contract in early June 2011.

The ‘framework’ nature of the contract means that, not only Wakefield Council can use the agreement for future works, but also any local authority within the Yorkshire and Humberside region.
