Services Provided Design and Construction
Oxfordshire County Council had employed Turfdry on numerous successful school playing field drainage and construction projects in the past and asked if the Turfdry Drainage System could provide a satisfactory solution. Unlike conventional plastic pipe drainage the Turfdry Drainage System can be effectively installed at shallow depths and already had a proven track record in similar circumstances.
ClientStafford Grammar School
Services Provided Design and Construction for New Playing Fields
With only limited existing playing fields close to the noisy M6 motorway, Stafford Grammar School managed to acquire two pasture fields adjacent to its boundary that were ideally located but not suitable for sports use due to very undulating terrain.
Having considered bids from various specialist companies to redevelop the land for sports use the school chose to appoint Turfdry who had undertaken a detailed topographical survey and used advanced land re-modelling software to create various options for consideration by the school. The chosen option incorporated three new football pitches, new hockey and rugby pitches, extensive training grids, and a new 16-wicket cricket square, designed to host ladies county cricket matches.
ClientReepham High School, Norwich
Services Provided Design and Construction
As a result of some outstanding academic results Reepham High School, Norwich, was able to secure direct government funding for a new sixth-form building, located on the school’s existing playing fields. To replace these, the school purchased six hectares of adjacent agricultural land and put out to tender a new playing field ‘design and build’ contract in summer 2008.
Turfdry came up with a range of different layouts and the one chosen by the school incorporated a 400-metre athletics track, football, rugby, and hockey pitches, training grids, and a cricket square/outfield suitable to stage county matches.
ClientCandleby Lane School, Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire
Services Provided Design and Construction
Candleby Lane School was subject to a major rebuilding programme that necessitated the destruction of the existing playing field, which was required as a storage area throughout the rebuilding project. Nottinghamshire County Council asked Turfdry to advise on reconstructing the playing field following the success of a similar scheme undertaken by Turfdry for the same client four years earlier at Norbridge Primary School, Worksop.
ClientMark Hall Specialist Sports College, Harlow
Services Provided Re-design and Reconstruction of Existing Athletics Track Infield
Turfdry had already carried out numerous successful projects for Essex County Council (value around £500k) before being asked, in 2007, to look at problems with an existing athletics infield at Mark Hall Specialist Sports College, Harlow, which had been poorly constructed and was prone to serious waterlogging.
Due to the need to get the facility back into play in the shortest time possible the field was then re-turfed in February 2008, rather than re-seeded, and was back in use two months later.
