ClientNewcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council
Services Provided Various Sports Pitch Drainage Projects
In 2004 Turfdry designed and installed a £150k drainage scheme as part of Football Foundation funded project at the five-hectare Roe Lane Playing Fields site in Clayton, Staffordshire.
Turfdry gave the client the option of either a conventional plastic pipe drainage system or a Turfdry Drainage System with Hydraway Sportsdrain proposed to be installed at three metre centres on what was a heavy clay site. Having been impressed when invited to see completed installations for neighbouring local authorities the client chose the Turfdry Drainage System because it offered excellent drainage performance and could be installed with minimal disruption to the ten existing football pitches on the site.
ClientMarple RUFC, near Stockport
Services Provided Sports Pitch Drainage
Marple RUFC, near Stockport, is a successful and expanding rugby club with three pitches and a modern clubhouse. Unfortunately, with increasing use, particularly from an expanding junior section, the pitches were becoming increasingly prone to waterlogging.
The club considered proposals from contractors offering conventional plastic pipe drainage systems but the club’s preferred solution was the Turfdry Drainage System with Hydraway Sportsdrain at 3 metre centres. This choice was based on excellent testimonials from other Turfdry clients, and the prospect of minimal disturbance to the existing pitches as a result of much narrower drainage trenches than associated with conventional drainage systems.
ClientKeele University, Staffordshire
Services Provided Sports Pitch Drainage
Due to the increasing demand for sports pitches at the expanding Keele University (Staffordshire), Head of Grounds, John Downing sought to bring back into use a football pitch on site that had become disused due to a combination of poor drainage and the unevenness of the surface.
Quotations were sought from a range of firms and Turfdry was chosen to install a new Turfdry Drainage System with Hydraway Sportsdrain at 2.5 metre centres, together with sand top-dressing, over-seeding, and fertilizing.
ClientJulie Rose Athletics Stadium, Ashford in Kent
Services Provided Sports Pitch Drainage
The multi-million pound Julie Rose Athletics Stadium in Ashford, Kent, was a wonderful addition to the sporting facilities of south-east England but when it opened it became immediately apparent that the central athletics field had severe waterlogging problems and was unusable during wet weather.
Turfdry was asked to design a solution. Site factors dictated that a shallow drainage system with minimal gradients was required and conventional plastic pipes would have been unsuitable in these circumstances.
