Turfdry Begins Work on New Wetland Project for Enfield Council at Oakwood Park

Added: 1st August 2022

With a passionate commitment to making pro-active improvements to the natural environment, Enfield Council is one of Turfdry's favourite clients to work with. Having delivered numerous drainage and construction projects in the borough over the past decade - including the award-winning wetlands project at Firs Farm Park - we were delighted to receive an invitation to tender for the construction of a new wetlands network in Oakwood Park.

As part of the broader investments in the former Royal Hunting Grounds of Enfield Chase, this series of wetlands are designed to provide environmental and ecological havens to promote the enrichment and diversification of local flora and fauna, whilst also providing a measure of surface-water attenuation to help mitigate flood risks.

This will see water from the currently culverted Houndsden Stream tributary in the urbanised area to the east of the park diverted into the new wetlands before returning to the culvert at the south-eastern boundary; this diversion will help filter surface water of contaminants, whilst regulating the flow of water through the park.

Through careful design that seeks to remain sympathetic to the existing contours of the land, the final wetland network should enhance park visitors' experience, with aesthetically pleasing topography offering greater opportunities to engage with the natural environment.

With GPS-equipped excavators equipped with rototilt buckets, Turfdry's team of highly experienced operators are able to deliver the earthworks with both speed and precision; the works have progressed well thus far, with topsoil strip operations completed and the wetland excavation underway. Be sure to check in soon for updates as the project progresses, or take a look at some similar projects from Turfdry's portfolio.
