Due to the increasing demand for sports pitches at the expanding Keele University (Staffordshire), Head of Grounds, John Downing sought to bring back into use a football pitch on site that had become disused due to a combination of poor drainage and the unevenness of the surface.

Quotations were sought from a range of firms and Turfdry was chosen to install a new Turfdry Drainage System with Hydraway Sportsdrain at 2.5 metre centres, together with sand top-dressing, over-seeding, and fertilising. Photographs showing progress of the site throughout various stages of the works are shown below.

The works were considered very successful and what was one of the worst pitches on campus is now one of the best. John Downing has subsequently asked Turfdry to draw up proposals for similar works to be carried out on the remainder of the University’s pitches.
