Turfdry Constructed Sports Pitch Gets Bedford Mayor's Vote of Approval

Added 16th June 2016

Following the design and construction of a new sports pitch for Orbit Homes - the UK's second largest housing association developer - on the site of their new 'Aspire' housing development in Bedford, Turfdry was delighted to receive an invitation to the facility’s grand opening event attended by Dave Hodgson, the Mayor of Bedford. In addition to casting an impressed eye over the pitch, he was joined by members of the team from Orbit, Turfdry Assistant Manager Matthew Taylor, and members of the local press for a tour of the new pavilion.

Mr Hodsgen and his staff expressed delight in the project's results, as well as interest in the construction elements, asking numerous questions regarding the design & build process from empty land to shiny new sports pitches. In particular, the Mayor highlighted the facilities' central place in the community as integral to their long lasting value, commenting:

"It's great to see the sports pitch and pavilion completed and open for use by the community. Bedford has a proud sporting culture which is founded on participation and enjoyment, and these new facilities for the Aspire estate will enhance that even further."

Seeking to enhance its new development with a community-centric project, Orbit Homes contacted Turfdry due to the firm’s extensive track record of delivering high quality sports pitches for a range of client nationwide. With experience of working on numerous similar projects, Turfdry’s construction and drainage teams were able to ensure the works ran smoothly with proper planning and clear communication throughout - sharing the site with the ongoing housing development. Following the construction and installation of the drainage, a semi-automatic irrigation system was installed, whilst the pitch was turfed using ‘Big-Roll’ turf as a result of the client’s desired handover date.

The pitch and associated facilities will be available for use by local residents as well as the wider community.
